The dark chessmen are made from solid ebony wood - a rare, dense, strong, and heavy hardwood that is difficult to carve, therefore only entrusted to the hands of master carvers. Ebony wood varies in color from red to black, with a rich variety of dark shades. The light chessmen are made from boxwood, a fine-grained hardwood with an ivory appearance and a natural luster. The king of this beautiful set of chessmen stands 5.5 inches tall with a base diameter of 1.7 inches. Made in India. Teak box dimensions: 24L x 11W x 3H inches.
