The dark chessmen are made from solid ebony wood, a rare, dense, strong, and heavy hardwood that is difficult to carve, therefore only entrusted to the hands of master carvers. Ebony wood varies in color from red to black, with a rich variety of dark shades. The light chessmen are made from boxwood, a fine-grained hardwood with an ivory appearance and a natural luster. The king of this beautiful set of chessmen stands five inches tall with a base diameter of 1.8 inches. Made in India.
