I enjoyed the detail of the chess pieces. However the faces of the pieces were ugly. Could use a redesign. All other characteristics of the sets were superb. My set had a manufacturing defect that could not be repaired so I received credit for the purchase. I am now looking for a similar set in which the facial details may be more appealing. Because of the beautiful detail of the pieces I would not recommend them for children, or players that may throw the pieces when they lose a game. They may have a tendency to break.

These pieces are individually nice but fail as a chess set. I have many figurine style sets so it is not that I am unable to play with anything but Staunton design. The problem is that the Black and White sides are not all on the same two styles or colors of bases. Some of the bases are pedestals, others rocks. Some are dark grey, others are light gray without any reference to which side and all mixed together. While you can see which are supposed to be "good" or White and which "evil" or Black on examination of the figures there is no real quick visual cue. Check the photos on this site of many other figurine sets such as the Fairy Chessmen, the Robin Hood chessmen and many other examples. You will see that the Black pieces are on one color of pedestal, the White on a contrasting color. I'm keeping these as they are beautiful for the price but I doubt I will play many games with them.

Very nice looking product, Detailed paint. Not for kids as it has sharp points.
